Found: Chaos, Calm, and a Little Bit of Magic
The time is 15:50, and I’m sitting in a café in Sri Lanka, listening to the ocean, sipping coffee, and working. My first few days here have been nothing short of pure randomness – in the best possible way.
While walking on the beach, we started chatting with a Sri Lankan grandpa who turned out to be a yoga teacher. The next morning, he held a sunrise yoga class for us on the beach – and it was surprisingly incredible. A two-hour session, taught by someone who has been practising yoga his whole life, with the sound of the ocean in the background… honestly, just magical.
Sri Lankans are also incredibly helpful. We wanted to try the local buses to get the real feel of the country, and we couldn’t even keep track of how many people offered to help us figure out which unnumbered bus to hop on.
On our way back to the guesthouse, we spotted some boxing bags and spontaneously walked in to ask about classes. The next morning, we were having a private boxing lesson – the first ever for both of us – and we had so much fun.
And of course, we’ve been spending time on the beach, soaking in the island vibes. Little spoiler alert: as with almost every Beyond Trails & Tales trip, this one has hidden intentions too – I’m on a mission to find the perfect spot for a future surf group trip!
On a more heartbreaking note, Sri Lanka has recently experienced severe weather that sadly took many lives. Before coming, I made sure the areas I’d visit were safe, but I’m still keeping everyone affected in my thoughts.
Feeling the beauty and the weight of Sri Lanka 🌺,
Patricia
