Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival
After landing in Kilimanjaro Airport - we’ll head to Moshi where we are spending the night in a hotel - preparing for our climb which is starting the next day.
Day 2 – Machame Gate
During breakfast we’ll listen to a breifing from our wonderful Kilimanjaro guides - and head straight to Machame Gate - where our first climbing day begins. We’ll ascend from 1800 meters to 2835 meters, which will take us around 5-7 hours, and 11 kilometers in total. We’ll settle into our tents set up by our amazing team, and we’ll enjoy our freshly cooked dinner.
Day 3 - Upwards we go
After an early wake up call, we are countinuing our summit by going to 3750 meters. Today’s climb will be steep, and will take us around 5 to 6 hours. We are going for 5 kilometers today - as Tanzanians say: Pole Pole - slowly, slowly, to reserve our energy. In the afternoon you’ll have time to relax, while enjoying home cooked meals.
Day 4 – The adventure continues
It’s a longer trek ahead of us today - following the golden rule of acclimatization, “walk high, sleep low”. We’ll hiking up to 4600 meters, and descending back to 3900 meters. It’s a 10 kilometer hike today, which will take us between 6 to 8 hours.
Day 5 – Barranco
The day beginf with the famous Barranco Wall - which might look intimidating - but it isn’t a technical climb - and our guides will look after us every step of the way. After reaching the top of the wall, we’ll get stunning views of Karanga Camp. We are following the same rule today, “walk high, sleep low” - we’ll descend back to 3995 meters, from the wall which sits at 4200 meters. Today’s hike we’ll take us around 5 hours to complete, and our total distance will be 5 kilometers.
Day 6 – Final push
This is our last day before we summit, therefore today’s trek will be shorter, 4-5 kilometers, taking us through a high-alpine, glacier zone. We’ll be served an early dinner - as our summit starts incredibly early the next day - at midnight.
Day 7 – Summit Day
The most mentally and physically challanging day arrives. After a midnight wake up call, we begin our push to the summit. We’ll walk “pole-pole”, slowly slowly, zigzagging on slippery, volcanic rocks through the night. We are taking many short breaks while defeating tiredness and mental blocks. At Stella Point (5756 meters) we’ll be rewarded with the most beautiful sunrise before we push ourselves a tiny bit more, while singing the Kilimanjaro Anthem out loud to reach the highest point of Africa at 5895 meters. We’ll spend 15 minutes on the top, before starting our descent. To defeat altitude sickness, we are descending all the way back to 3100 meters. It’s by far the most challenging day - 17 kilometers in total, 1222 meters upwards, and 2795 meters descending.
Day 8 – Completing our Adventure
After breakfast, we’ll begin the easiest part of our adventure, descending 1460 meters back to Machame Gate. The vibes will be absolutely amazing as we just conquered the highest free standing mountain in the world! There is no way to describe the emotions you will feel - you have to experience it to understand. Our hike will take around 4 hours today, and we’ll get transported back to Moshi - take a well deserved shower, and rest.
Day 9 – Departure
We are heading back to Kilimanjaro Airport - with memories which will last a lifetime.
OR, you’ll have the chance to stay a bit more in theis incredible country and join a 3-day safari.
